In 1890, a chemist named William Morrison created the first all-electric vehicle. It was a six passenger wagon that reached a top speed of 14 mph. Although this vehicle wasn’t much, it helped spark interest in electric vehicles and everything they have the power to do.

Mazda’s first all electric vehicle debuted in 2020, the Mazda MX-30 EV. Since then, upgraded models have been released and the 2023 Mazda MX-30 is now available. The MX-30 EV is viewed as a good starting electric vehicle. It doesn’t have too many options that can confuse owners. The design is simple and coupe-like. The starting price is very affordable and comes with one 143-hp electric motor that drives the front wheels; all-wheel drive isn't available. The EPA estimates its driving range will only be around 100 miles per charge. On top of the MX-30 EV being environmentally friendly because of the electric motor, the MX-30's cabin uses natural and sustainable materials such as cork and breathable fabric upholstery made from recycled plastic bottles. The MX-30 is offered in base and Premium Plus trims. The Premium Plus model adds a lot of equipment, including active blind-spot assist, front cross-traffic alert, a 12-speaker Bose stereo system, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree exterior camera system, and more. Car and Driver recommends The Premium Plus model as the best buy for your money. Key safety features include:

Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection

Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

  Standard adaptive cruise control

In addition to the digital panel for the MX-30's climate controls and vehicle settings, a secondary 8.8-inch display sprouts from the dashboard to cover infotainment features such as the audio system, navigation, and backup camera.

Electric vehicles (EVs) appear to have many environmental and societal benefits compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. These advantages include slowing climate change, less air pollution, fewer ecological risks, safer manufacturing processes, and reduced waste through recycling and repurposing materials. The Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is the statewide administrator of the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP). This program offers rebates for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty vehicles in the state of California. On the CVRP website, they advertise their mission as “promoting clean vehicle adoption in California by offering rebates from $1,000 to $7,500 for the purchase or lease of new, eligible zero-emission vehicles, including electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles”. California is the state with the most all-electric and hybrid vehicles on its roads. This shift away from gasoline and diesel brings many environmental and economic benefits, including less air pollution and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. As long as funds are available, eligible California residents can follow a simple process to apply for a CVRP rebate after purchasing or leasing an eligible vehicle.

The CVRP has a list of eligible vehicles that rebates are available for. The Mazda MX-30 is one of approved vehicles that meets the standard. Eligible applicants must:

Be an individual, business, nonprofit or government entity that is based in California or has a California-based affiliate at the time the rebated vehicle is purchased or leased.

Meet income eligibility requirements at the time application is received.

If funds are not available at the time of your application, you may still apply and be placed on a rebate waitlist. Rebates for approved applications on the waitlist will be issued if additional funding from the state of California becomes available. If funds are available at the time you submitted your application, your rebate amount will be reserved when you apply online. You will receive your rebate if you meet all requirements and submit correct supporting documents within the given time frame. Mazda MX-30s are sold exclusively in California, so head on down to the Huntington Beach Mazda dealership to get your Mazda and apply for the rebate. If we don’t have the vehicle in stock, let’s talk about our pre-order process! Since 2009, the rebate program has distributed over $1 billion to more than 450,000 applicants. The rebate program aims to encourage sustainable practices to create a healthier earth.
