Fans of Mazda have waited on pins and needles for the 2024 CX-90. This vehicle is a 3 row SUV with an option of a plug-in hybrid. The CX-90 is a replacement for the discontinued CX-9 but is in no way an “upgraded” version with a few changes. The Mazda CX-90 is a whole new car with lots to deliver.
To start off, Jerry Reynolds from CarPro did an extensive review on the Mazda CX-90. His overall verdict was that buyers will realize that this Mazda is “a true luxury SUV”. Over the more recent years Mazda has been slowly integrating itself into the “Luxury brand” category. The CX-90 is a prime example of their intentions and they hit the mark with the interior design down to the last stitch.
The plug-in hybrid aspect of the vehicle is a good transition for those who want to become more fuel efficient, but aren’t ready to go all electric. The engine and motor together provide almost 500 miles of combined range with 26 miles of electric only driving. The combined range is decent and will keep you from making too many stops at the gas station. Powering this vehicle is an inline 3.3-liter cylinder that is turbocharged. The engine has a 48-volt mild hybrid system for a higher horsepower and better fuel economy. There is an 8-speed transmission with shifting paddles that creates 340 hp and 369 lbs-ft of torque and the most powerful engine produced by Mazda. Plug-in electric hybrid vehicles (PHEV) are only effective if you plug them in and charge the battery consistently. The upside to the size of the battery is it doesn’t take a lot of time to charge. Motortrend tested it out and found it took 2 and a half hours for the battery to go from 0 to 100% using a Level 2 charger. Not bad at all.
The interior of the 2024 Mazda CX-90 is stunning and eye-catching. There is a two-tone layout with Alcantara running along the dash and other places. Alcantara is the brand name of a common synthetic textile material. It has a soft, suede-like microfiber pile and is noted for its durability. There are heated and cooled power front seats that are comfortable to sit in. The front seats also have memory settings and power lumbar support. The seats are made from leather and Alcantara both. The stitching and trim are a step above what you find in other mainstream SUVs. The moment you step into the car, you will feel the upscale quality and know you are in a luxury vehicle.
