Mazda introduced its first battery-electric car in Fall 2021; the MX-30. This vehicle is an electric and hybrid compact crossover SUV, extremely stylish, the first step in Mazda’s multi-solution electrification strategy, and most excitingly, a vehicle that has passed safety tests with flying colors! The MX-30 features clamshell doors, also known as “freestyle doors”, which was making the auto industry question the appropriate safety. But by no surprise, Mazda has done it again and designed these doors with such strength and durability that it received a 5-start rating in frontal and side crash tests in addition to a 5-start Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
A little background regarding the NCAP: This agency was developed in 1979 to encourage manufacturers to build safer vehicles and consumers to buy them. Initially, these tests were limited to full-frontal crash tests. Now NCAP includes side-impact tests and rollover resistance ratings. The agency has been asked to develop dynamic rollover and child restraint rating systems. Over the years, the agency has improved the program by adding rating programs, facilitating access to test results, and revising the information to make it easier for consumers to understand.
The Mazda MX-30 incorporates the most recent safety philosophies, technologies, and performance to enable assured and joyful driving which makes it the ideal daily driver with an EPA estimated range of 100 miles on a full charge. Considering the typical American drives approximately 30 miles per day, the MX-30 was specifically designed to meet their needs. Charging at home and on the go is easy. When connected to a Level 3 DC Fast Charge, the battery can go from 20% to 80% charged in just 36 minutes. This vehicle is intended to satisfy most urban residents with its excellent driving dynamics and low environmental impacts. It comprises such superior features that it outsold all other battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Q1 of 2022. Their sales bypassed large name manufacturers including Buick, Subaru, GMA, and even Toyota.
Mazda wants everyone to purely enjoy driving in any situation, and that applied just as much to a battery-electric vehicle as it does to any other kind of car. The MX-30 incorporates further-evolved Mazda unique driving performance, achieved through the human-centric development philosophy. Every time you hop into this car, you can understand an enjoyable everyday driving experience. It is the perfect companion for your daily commute or wherever inspiration leads.
Mazda’s North America Operations President and CEO Jeff Guyton stated, “We aim to offer a confident and joyful driving experience with industry-leading safety features that support and protect our drivers and passengers. We work hard to make sure your Mazda has been designed to give you the very best protection and we are proud to have the MX-30 earn the government’s top rating – the NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score.”
Not only does the Mazda MX-30 hold 5-start crash test scores, but the interior was designed for comfort with supreme craftsmanship. Designed with a floating theme, it gives a sense of unity.
